How to Vote in Thunder Bay
Thunder Bay chooses its next Mayor on Monday, October 26, 2026. However you choose to cast it, your vote matters. Here is everything you need to make it count.
Key Date
Election Day is Monday, October 26, 2026. Polls are open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you are in line by 8:00 p.m., you can vote.
Vote Online
Internet voting opens Monday, October 19 at 10:00 a.m. and closes Monday, October 26 at 8:00 p.m. To vote online you will need the voter identification number and PIN printed on your Voter Information Letter from the City.
Vote Early, In Person
The City offers advance voting days before Election Day, including accessible options. Dates and locations are set by the City Clerk. Check the official link below for the current schedule.
Vote on Election Day
Visit your assigned voting location on October 26 between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Paper ballots and online voting are both available.
Are You Eligible?
You can vote in the Thunder Bay municipal election if you are a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on voting day, a resident of Thunder Bay (or a non-resident owner or tenant of property in the city, or their spouse), and not otherwise prohibited from voting.
Make Sure You Are on the Voters List
The City mails a Voter Information Letter to registered voters. The revision period to add or correct your information opens September 1, 2026 and runs until the close of voting on Election Day. You do not need the letter to vote in person, just bring acceptable ID, but you do need the number and PIN on it to vote online. If you did not receive a letter or it has an error, contact the City Clerk's office.
What to Bring
Bring at least one piece of acceptable identification that shows your name and your Thunder Bay address.
